Wall Flower

I took this picture for fun, but added it in because I really liked the way it turned out. The two subjects are far away, but the sunset was perfect that night and the photo turned out great.

3. Wall Flower; 10/19/09; 11:35 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f5.6; 1/8; Cannon Rebel XTI. Edits: I added a black and white filter and then brought back the blue jacket with a filter mask.

Temple Brushed

I just used several different brushes to get the effect on this one. Then I put a simple border on it with the text.

Chain

This was a picture I took at Bannack Ghost Town in the prison cell. The picture was quite dark so I changed the levels, added a blur and then masked the chain back in. Then I added the border with a couple of different burned edges.

Both of these pictures were fun to take. I left the shutter open for 5 and 3.4 seconds to capture the light. I took several different shots of the same picture, but these were the ones that came out the best. If the shutter was left open for too long, the lights on the temple blew the picture out and made the temple look too bright.

Adjustment Layers & Smart Filters

For the Temple picture I added two filters in Photoshop. I added Fresco and Poster Edges. I found that when I resized the image to be smaller the image changed, so I went back and took off the Fresco filter, since it blurred the image too much.

For the Rooster picture all I did was add an Adjustment Layer to the picture. I played around with the image levels and was really pleased with the results. I only changed the levels and nothing else. I could have added more adjustment layers to see what different results I would get, but was happy with the changes I had made.

For these photos I borrowed one of the schools new hybrid cameras and went out into the countryside and also the school gardens. I had fun shooting pictures of animals and composing the picture with lead space in front of the animal. While I was out I found other fun things to take pictures of and got a little distracted, but am starting to see what will make for a good picture if shoot right.
