3. No Parking: 9/20/09; 3:45 p.m.; BYU-I Campus; f6.3 1/125; MAXXUM 5D v1.00.

4. Flower Bed: 9/20/09; 3:45 p.m.; BYU-I Campus; f6.3 1/125; ; MAXXUM 5D v1.00.

I decided to use the color red for this photo shoot because it is such a dominant and bright color. The last two pictures were taken with a shallow depth of field, in the manual mode, to give more contrast. I am new to photography, but I like the way these pictures turned out - it's a good beginning for me.

  1. The picture of the curb with the fire hydrant in the background is my favorite. I really like it's composition.

  2. I agree with Paul...or Andrew that the No Parking images is my favorite. You did a great job at capturing a variety of the color red. I also like the composition of the Flower bed. The angle of the paper stand is a little harsh I love angles (sometimes too much) but be aware of how much of an angle you are adding. I don't think you should have to tilt your head to clearify what you are seeing.

  3. For a beginner you have done a very good job. I am impressed. Especially with the cutout. I didn't do so well with my cutout. And you did two of them! Good job! My favorite pictures are the newspaper stand, and the curb with the fire hydrant. I like the angle of the newspaper stand. And the curb with the fire hydrant how you got an up close shot of the curb and a blurred hydrant in the background but didn't lose the color of the hydrant.

  4. I really like your "No Parking" image. Great repetition of colors within the same image with the red fire hydrant and curb! It really fits the red theme. I think the newspaper stand turned out great as well. I like how you aren't afraid to try extremes. Keep it up and you will have some great photos. One suggestion I could make would be to try to use composition in your shots as much as possible. We all have a tendency to center the subject but if you put it off center you will see good photos into amazing ones. "No Parking" has the fire hydrant on a one-third line which is perfect but your first image has the store door close to center in both directions. Anyway keep up the great work!

  5. I think you did a great job with these images. I am new to photography too, no worries. I love that in the thrid picture there is the close up red bar but you can see the red hydrant in the background...very creative and well done. In all of your pictures you should play with the contrast level and brighten them up a little but, they look liike it is a cloudy day. Otherwise, great job.
